F-16's pursue unknown craft over d.c. region
"It was this object, this light-blue object, traveling at a phenomenal rate of speed... this air force jet was right behind it, chasing it, but the object was just leaving him in the dust"

the never ending TIPS saga: Ashhole touts citizen vigilance plan.

cut from the homeland security bill, apparently it's still squirming around like a nuclear fallout-enriched roach as a 'citizen corps' program. die already.

I dunno about you, but when I hear the word homeland I see corn and kansas and nazi germany.

u.s.p.s opts out off the TIPS spy program - at least for now.
On Tuesday the Postal Service said it had held preliminary discussions with homeland security officials on the project but had not make a final decision.

That decision came Wednesday with the announcement the agency would opt out, at least for now. Officials did not elaborate on the decision.

imperial homeland security propaganda minister of large, tom 'fat old barney fife' ridge, purportedly heard dubya sketching out something to give the short bald guy to downplay the u.s.p.s. blow to their perfectly oppressive and dubious (dubyish?) plan in an afternoon cabinet meeting:

'that's ok fellas... look... we have that lance armstrong guy on our team, amerrika's team, and he lives in texashs, where as you know I once actually won an election and owned a baseball team, and, come on now people, we're talkin' about Texashs here. there are no terrorishts down there, not on my watch, and it's not like they can deliver a 2-day package anyway unless they give it right to lance. furthermore, if they continue to misunderestimate their freedom, and the liberties of hard working citishens like this, well, I think they know our message. either you're with us, or you're with the terrorishts.'

here's a whopper that's, oddly enough, slipping through the domestic media's reportage: bush administration planning to recruit 4% of u.s. citizens as domestic spies
The Terrorism Information and Prevention System, or TIPS, means the US will have a higher percentage of citizen informants than the former East Germany through the infamous Stasi secret police. The program would use a minimum of 4 per cent of Americans to report 'suspicious activity'....

Highlighting the scope of the surveillance network, TIPS volunteers are being recruited primarily from among those whose work provides access to homes, businesses or transport systems. Letter carriers, utility employees, truck drivers and train conductors are among those named as targeted recruits.

the 10 city pilot program begins in august.
