• shhhhh. city of pittsburgh pays $211,000 to have a fuck-up removed from the police force. the press had to sue under PA's Right to Know Act to get records ... still, details were held private.
Cooperstein was charged with murder in the shooting of the Hill District man and fired by Mayor Murphy for violating police procedures.

and, like most bad cops, tried & found innocent.

"We cut our losses and did what was best for the citizens and best for the bureau," Morrow said.
- City Solicitor Jacqueline Morrow
great method. i find the depersonalization charming, particularly when they're forgetting the bit about murder. anyway, the city screwed up when they hired the known coke head in the first place. the system makes it too easy for bad cops to fall through the cracks... and, to get away with murder. why isn't there a national network set up to track & report criminal cops? something along the lines of Megan's Law?

• during this week, pixel.txt will be making a transition from its old location to its new domain and name (here) at www.metalingo.com I need to add functionality... search, some cgi stuff.

• mirror neurons
With knowledge of these neurons, you have the basis for understanding a host of very enigmatic aspects of the human mind: "mind reading" empathy, imitation learning, and even the evolution of language. Anytime you watch someone else doing something (or even starting to do something), the corresponding mirror neuron might fire in your brain, thereby allowing you to "read" and understand another's intentions, and thus to develop a sophisticated "theory of other minds."

• BBEdit tips & tricks, and the grep tutorial. BBEdit is an excellent HTML text editor app for Mac ... I use it for all my coding. Given that many of my projects at werk so far I've inherited from other coders who've been using Dreamweaver (a visual HTML editor), it seems I'm eternally re-coding tables and removing redundant font tags. Visual HTML editors have their place... in hell. Really ... If you want to layout graphic intensive sites, just learn how to write complex tables by hand. Learn HTML. It's not too hard.    [BBEdit link via xblog]

• metalingo (was pixel.txt) has received 10,000 hits as of today (started counting in october). I've not been doing much with this blog lately... working too hard, no time to surf. My current project at werk is a 40 page media reference site in 5 languages due for launch on the 23rd... 200 pages, lots of javascript, converting translated word docs to HTML. Working 60 something hour weeks... thrilling weekend in front of me... adding a footer that links each page to itself in each language.

anyway, have been thinking about making the blog more collaborative... maybe a section where my faithless readers can post all the fun links I've been missing with my head up my werk. whaddya think?

8:34 p.m. Someone wigged out at a video store and may have said scary things.

9 p.m. Indolent grouches hung around annoying people in the 1000 block of G Street. A cop car creeped them out and they scattered like grease globules under a generous squirt of new, improved lemon-scented dish detergent.

12:56 a.m. A man who behaves erratically when he's off his meds made a pointless scene in the lobby of a Plaza hotel, then left.
